Mooi Bavaria CIty Racing Weekend voor Junior

August

Rotterdam 22-augustus-2010

Rotterdam, 19 augustus 2010

Junior finishes P8 in Barber race
12
April

Birmingham, AL (April 11, 2010) - A perfect sunny Spring morning greeted HVM Racing’s Junior Strous as he returned to the Barber Motorsports Park in preparation for today’s Round #2 of the Firestone Indy Lights season.  After a qualifying effort that landed him in the 8th spot, Strous was looking forward to keeping his No. 6 Shell/Car Channel Dallara among the top finishing spots.  Though he may not have had the luxury of testing here, as many of his competitors did, the young Dutchman had high hopes that the experience gained over the last couple of days would be enough to allow him a strong result.

Strous began the race and went down a position and by Lap 13 Strous had dropped down to the 11th spot.  He rebounded nicely on lap 14 and took back the 10th position as part of a 3-car fight. Solidly now in 10th, Strous began his run for the 9th spot and took it by passing Niall Quinn.  He soon captured the 8th spot on Lap 33 when James Winslow had to duck into the pits to address front wing damage.  As the checkered flag dropped, Strous would cross the start/finish line in 8th place.  Strous and HVM will pack up and head west to the streets of Long Beach, CA for next weekend’s famous Long Beach Grand Prix.

Junior Strous, Driver No. 6 – “The race was interesting. Barber is known for its lack of passing possibilities, which was quite good for us because we did not have the speed and we also tried to maximize the yellow flags and restarts to our advantage. In the beginning we lost some positions but throughout the race we were able to catch up to some guys and retake some of my lost positions.  Overall, we are a bit disappointed in how the weekend went because we expected much more, but we believe we have found some improvements on the car in time for Long Beach.”

Keith Wiggins, HVM Racing Team Principal – “We’re making progress and clearly we need to make some more and work hard to get where we want to be.  We’ve had some solid results and now we move on to a street race and we’re looking forward to progressing forward.”

Qualifying Report Barber Race
11
April
Birmingham, AL - (April 10, 2010) -- Chilly weather greeted the HVM Racing Firestone Indy Lights team as they arrived this morning for qualifying for tomorrow’s Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by Legacy Credit Union at Barber Motorsports.  After completing two practice sessions yesterday, in which team driver Junior Strous finished P11 and P9, the young Dutchman arrived on track looking for a qualifying result good enough to help his charge towards the front for tomorrow’s inaugural race.

Strous and his No. 6 Shell/Car Channel Dallara entered the timesheets with a strong lap time and hovered for most of the 45 minute session between the 4th and 6th positions.  With temperatures increasing and the lap speed also climbing, Strous kept up with the hectic pace.  Despite the numerous cautions he kept his focus throughout his 18 lap effort.  As the checkered flag came out Strous would end up finishing his qualifying session in P8, with a best time of 1:16.0013 (108.946 mph).  For Strous, who did not have any pre-season testing with the team, the qualifying result represents his best qualifying effort thus far this season and a strong testament to his racing talents.

The race will air tomorrow live on www. indycar.com at 1 p.m. ET.

Junior Strous, Driver No. 6 – “We’re still struggling a bit, but overall I’m happy to be inside the top-10 for tomorrow’s race.  We’ll use tomorrow’s warm up to tweak a couple of things and try to get the car better, especially since this is a difficult track and it’s especially hard on the tires. I’m looking forward to a great race and I’m confident that we can do a good job.”

Keith Wiggins, HVM Racing Team Principal - “We made progress today after making a couple of changes.  This is definitely one of the most challenging tracks to try to get a good set up and considering we did not participate in the open test a while back, it certainly provides us with a challenge.  In addition, this is a very difficult place to pass as well but, we have the fullest confidence in Junior and in his abilities and certainly believe that he is capable of having a great race and can bring the car back in a good position.”

HVM Racing’s driver Junior Strous will make his second start of the Firestone Indy Lights 2010 season this weekend at the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama Presented by Legacy Credit Union at Barber Motorsports Park.  After a 2 week break the youngster is eager to get back into the cockpit of his No. 6 Shell/ Car Channel entry and is ready to tackle the road course.

Strous spent his 2 week downtime period in Holland and arrived back  this week in Alabama to get a head start on preparations and to study the course especially since this will be his first time racing on it. He will be relying on his racing experience to get himself acclimated to the track in time for the race on Sunday.

Strous has not been one to let unfamiliarity stand in the way of success.  In 2008 he went on to win the St. Petersburg Indy Lights doubleheader race after never having competed at that event.  He’s hoping for the same fate for this weekend against a field of 17 other drivers.

Indy Lights St. Petersburg Race Report
08
April
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (March 29, 2010) - With ominous skies above, the HVM Racing Indy Lights team arrived on track prepared to compete in the opening round of the Firestone Indy Lights Series . After qualifying in the 11th position, Dutch racer Junior Strous climbed into his No. 6 Shell/Car Channel entry, prepared to earn valuable points in his quest for the Firestone Indy Lights championship.

As the green flag dropped, Strous began his progress forward. In the first turn on lap one, contact between pole winner James Hinchcliffe and Phillip Major shuffled the positioning and Strous put himself in the seventh spot, and soon thereafter his smart driving allowed him to advance to fourth after an incident on lap five. The skies opened with pouring rain and Strous, as well as the rest of the field, came into the pits for rain tires.

After the restart, Strous began fighting alongside Jan Heylen for third place. He successfully made his move for the position on lap 13 and then quickly proceeded to take over second place. Now, in the second spot, Strous was looking to erase the nine second lead between him and first place. He continued his charge to the front however, a misstep in turn one caused him to spin the car around. His fortunes worsened when the car did not start back up. The incident put Strous back one full lap and relegated him back to the 11th spot. Undeterred, Strous came back on track and managed to salvage a top-10 finish by ending the race in 10th place.

Indy Lights St. Petersburg Saturday Report
29
March

For Junior Strous, who is making his 2010 Firestone Indy Lights debut at this weekend's Honda Grand Prix at St. Petersburg, the day was about patience and perseverance. The former winner of two of the race events here last year, the young Dutch racer was going to have to overcome the challenges of no preseason testing and a lengthy absence from Indy Lights competition. Despite the mounting challenges Strous, along with his HVM Racing crew were ready to overcome the circumstances.
For the day's qualifying session, Strous and his # 6 Shell/Car Channel entry arrived at the 1.8 mile, 14-turn track on Saturday. Once the car was on track the youngster muscled his car around the circuit. He was hampered throughout the session with brake problems. The crew worked diligently throughout the 1 hour qualifying session on trying to improve the car. Despite the struggles Strous had managed to excel to the 4th position on the timesheet. But as the times continued to drop Strous was relegated to the 11th spot on the grid with a best time of 01:07.6581, after completing a total of 30 laps

Junior Strous, Driver- “It was a tough day but the crew and I are new to each other and it will take some time to gel, but I am excited about starting off the season here in St.Petersburg and can't wait for the race tomorrow."

Keith Wiggins, HVM Racing Team Principal - “It was the first race and the first time the car had ran, so it was not ideal for the team or Junior. However, we made some progress as a group and we are looking for a solid race tomorrow. We will work hard from there going forward.”

Junior: 'Schiphol kan gevaarlijker zijn dan autoracen'
23
March
